Porsche-Diesel – other models: the air-cooled tractors from Friedrichshafen, 1956 to 1963, Junior, Standard, Super and Allgaier R22, one- to three-cylinder, 10 to 38 kW
Porsche-Diesel Motorenbau built air-cooled diesel tractors from 1956 to 1963 at its plant in Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance, their engine concept going back to pre-war developments by Ferdinand Porsche. The precursor was the Allgaier R22, built by the Allgaier company of Uhingen until Porsche took over the tractor division in 1956. The type logic of the Porsche-Diesel range follows cylinder count: Junior with a single cylinder, Standard with two, Super with three; the Star suffix and number combinations such as 308 or 1965 mark equipment levels and model years. In 1963 Porsche ended tractor production, with the dealer network partly taken over by Fendt and Deutz.

The register lists here 13 versions with 10 to 38 kW from one- to three-cylinder diesel engines of 822 to 2,630 cm³, unladen weights from 1,050 to 1,710 kg, lengths from 2,560 to 3,470 mm and widths from 1,450 to 1,800 mm.
The air-cooled Porsche-Diesel engines were regarded as low-maintenance and frost-proof, since there was no cooling water to freeze, which made the tractors popular especially on smaller and medium-sized farms in southern Germany; today they are sought-after collectors' items.
On these classics, what counts is the condition of the air-cooled engine including fan and cylinder head, the tightness of the injection pump, the condition of clutch and gearbox, and rust on the bodywork and wings; parts are kept by specialist Porsche-Diesel clubs and vintage-vehicle dealers.

What to check before buying
- Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
- Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
- Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
- Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
- Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
