Rated output within it ranges from 215 to 290 hp; the DT-220 A sits in the upper part of that range with 260 hp. Its immediate neighbours are the DT-200 A below it with 235 hp and the DT-240 A above it with 290 hp. Unladen weight within it ranges from 8,680 to 9,240 kg; here the DT-220 A sits at the top of that range with 9,240 kg. 40 Allis Gleaner Corporation models across 9 series are on record.

Allis-Gleaner Corporation (AGCO) DTA series – DT-180 A to DT-240 A: the stronger step above the DT series, 158 to 213 kW, up to 9.2 t

The DTA series carried on the Allis-Gleaner Corporation (AGCO) big standard tractors in a stronger-rated step: the DT-180 A, DT-200 A, DT-220 A and DT-240 A sit above the plain DT models in power. The Allis-Gleaner Corporation emerged in 1990 from the management buyout of the farm-equipment division of Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz, which had previously traded as Deutz-Allis, laying the foundation of today's AGCO group.

The register lists here 4 versions with 158.1 to 213.3 kW from six-cylinders of 7,365 to 8,419 cm³ displacement, torque from 875 to 1,103 Nm at 2,200 rpm, unladen weights from 8,680 to 9,240 kg, lengths from 5,240 to 5,320 mm, a width of 2,550 mm and heights from 3,090 to 3,180 mm – all with diesel engines.

With higher power and greater weight than the plain DT series, the DTA series covered the upper segment of heavy standard tractors as used on large North American arable operations for primary tillage and heavy mounted implements, competing with the corresponding large models from Case IH and John Deere.

Used, the DTA series calls for checking engine output under full load, turbocharger and charge-air cooling, transmission and axle drive in the heavier weight classes, and the hydraulics and PTO; frame and front-axle bearings should be checked for wear. Spare parts run through the AGCO organisation.

What to check before buying

  • Check the hour meter against the service records — a replaced instrument is the most common gap.
  • Compare the data plate and chassis number with the papers.
  • Check the weights in the papers against the figures here — attachments change them.
  • Check front and rear tyre sizes: mismatched pairs strain the drivetrain.
  • Shift the gearbox cold and warm — jumps only show up at temperature.
  • Load the hydraulics and watch for sag.
  • Ask about parts availability for this build year — the running costs hang on it.
