Allis-Chalmers of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was among the major US tractor makers of the 1920s. As was customary for other brands of the time, the double name of the early types 15-30/18-30, 20-25 and 25-40 states the drawbar and belt horsepower, the standard measure of a tractor's performance at the time. Such models with an open steel frame and driver's seat without a cab were the industry-standard design of the 1920s, before enclosed cabs became widespread.
