Zettelmeyer was an agricultural and construction machinery maker based in Konz near Trier, which in the 1950s built agricultural tractors alongside earthmoving equipment before the company specialised in wheel loaders, the products the brand remained known for until it ceased operations in the 1990s. This page collects the early Z-series tractors, listed in the register as Z 1, Z 2, Z1 and Z2; the type designation simply orders the two models by a running number, with no further characteristics to read from the digits. The Z-series tractors were powered by horizontal or upright two-cylinder diesel engines, common in West German post-war agricultural machinery.

The register lists 4 versions here with 14.6 to 16.1 kW from two-cylinder engines of 2,028 to 2,198 cm³ displacement at 1,500 to 1,600 revolutions per minute. Kerb weights range from 1,650 to 1,930 kg, lengths from 1,600 to 2,700 mm, widths from 1,400 to 1,770 mm and heights from 1,550 to 1,560 mm.
In the 1950s such two-cylinder agricultural tractors competed against far more numerous brands such as Deutz, Fendt and Eicher; Zettelmeyer remained a niche supplier in this segment, and its focus soon shifted to construction machinery. The Z series thus marks the agricultural origin of a maker later known chiefly for its wheel loaders.
Surviving examples of the Z series are rare today and are mostly kept by collectors of historic agricultural tractors; when buying used, the condition of the injection pump, the tightness of the engine and cooling system, and rust on the chassis and sheet metal all matter. Spare parts can be found through Zettelmeyer clubs and specialist vintage machinery dealers; factory parts supply no longer exists.
