KhTZ XTZ-17021

The water-cooled six-cylinder diesel engine has a displacement of 11,200 cc and produces 180 hp, or 132 kW, at 2,100 rpm. At 6,400 mm long, 2,460 mm wide, 3,250 mm high, with a 2,860 mm wheelbase and 440 mm ground clearance, the XTZ-17221-09 is a large, heavy field tractor.

A six-cylinder with over 11 litres of displacement for 180 hp, as in comparable heavy wheeled tractors, is built for high drawbar pull at moderate revs, as needed for heavy tillage and large mounted implements. The 440 mm ground clearance allows work over uneven ground without the underside grounding out.

When buying a used tractor this heavy, the condition of the injection pump, the tightness of the cooling system and the wear on the wide front axle deserve particular attention. Given the high overall weight, it is also worth assessing the braking system and tyre condition, as both are worked hard at this mass and replacement is correspondingly costly. The steering linkage and tie-rod ends belong on the same checklist, alongside the service records for any past engine repairs and injection-pump work.
