Volvo Perävaunun vetoajoneuvo (BD) – the Finnish registration class for drawbar-trailer tractors, six-cylinder engines of 9.4 to 16.1 litres, 248 to 552 kW, gross weights of 19.9 to 50 t

Perävaunun vetoajoneuvo (BD) is a vehicle class from the Finnish Traficom registration register: a perävaunu is a classic drawbar trailer with its own front axle, a vetoajoneuvo the vehicle towing it – the BD class thus covers trucks towing a full trailer rather than a semi-trailer, as distinct from the BC class for semi-trailer tractor units. This page gathers the Volvo trucks registered this way, whose model names in the Finnish register are now distinguished only by engine displacement and occasionally axle count; the abbreviation 2ov marks two-axle vehicles, the letter A the more powerful engine variant. The large displacements of 9.4 to 16.1 litres correspond to Volvo's D13 and D16 six-cylinder engines, as fitted in the heavy FH and FH16 ranges.

The register lists here 20 versions with 248 to 552 kW from six-cylinders of 9,364 to 16,123 cm³, unladen weights from 10,100 to 31,800 kg, gross weights from 19,900 to 50,000 kg, lengths from 8,430 to 11,750 mm and widths from 2,500 to 2,800 mm.

Drawbar-trailer tractors of this class form the basis in Finland and Sweden for combinations that, with a full trailer, clearly exceed the 40-tonne gross weight otherwise usual in the EU, and are among the well-known Scandinavian high-capacity transport combinations used in timber and heavy-goods haulage.

On used tractors of this kind, mileage on the D13 or D16 engine, the condition of the clutch, tow hitch and brake system sized for the higher combination weights, the frame and axles, and the transmission's service history count; parts and service run through the Volvo Trucks network.
