Valmet built tractors in the Finnish town of Jyväskylä and later at the Suolahti plant, initially as a state-owned Finnish engineering group and, from the 1950s, as a dedicated agricultural machinery maker alongside trucks and pulp machinery. This page gathers the METTA range with five four-digit types from 4100 to 4600, whose numbers rise together with power and weight. The smaller types run three-cylinder engines, the larger ones four-cylinder units, all diesels with a rated speed of 2,350 revolutions per minute.

With the METTA range Valmet served the mid-power segment of Finnish and Nordic farming, where simple mechanics and cold-start reliability mattered more than comfort equipment. The brand held its ground at home alongside international competitors before its tractor division was later absorbed into Valtra.
Buying used, the Finnish Valmet diesels call for checking the injection pump and fuel system after decades of service, hydraulic and PTO seals, and corrosion on the wings, cab floor and radiator area. Engine and drivetrain parts are available through the Valtra network, as the two ranges are closely related technically.
