UTB's Universal 400 range from Brașov also belongs to the Romanian Universal family; the U-460 and U-483 (DT) carry three-digit type numbers that, unlike the large U 650, do not follow a simple power logic but instead distinguish model and equipment variants. The DT suffix on the U-483 (DT) marks the four-wheel-drive version as against the rear-wheel-drive base model.

The register lists 2 variants at 30.9 to 35.3 kW from a three-cylinder diesel of 2,399 to 2,819 cc, kerb weights of 2,032 to 2,669 kg, lengths of 2,934 to 3,640 mm, widths of 1,730 to 1,774 mm, heights of 1,448 to 2,450 mm, torque of 140 Nm and a rated 2,400 rpm.
At around 40 to 48 hp, this range sat in the same power segment as many Western European standard tractors of the time and, like other UTB models, was exported mainly to the Eastern Bloc as well as to Africa, Asia and Latin America, where simple mechanics and repairability mattered more than comfort.
Buying one of these three-cylinder tractors, the condition of the injection pump and compression matter, along with wear on the clutch and gearbox and, on the DT version, the state of the front axle and transfer case; rust on the frame and sheet metal is the rule for tractors of this age, and parts run through Eastern European farm-machinery dealers, the same channels that supply the rest of the UTB range.
