The Universal 300 range comes from the Romanian tractor works UTB (Uzina Tractorul Brașov) in Brașov, Transylvania, which during the Cold War ranked among the Eastern Bloc's largest tractor makers and exported vehicles under the Universal and UTB names to many countries. The designations U-340 and U-360 rank the range by power class, while the DTC/DTCE-IF suffix refers to the respective technical equipment variant.

The register lists 3 versions with 22.1 to 25.7 kW from two- and three-cylinder diesel engines of 1,797 to 2,399 cm³, unladen weights of 1,565 to 2,775 kg, lengths of 2,805 to 2,870 mm, widths of 1,510 to 1,674 mm and heights of 1,403 to 2,200 mm; torque ranges from 111 to 132 Nm at rated speeds of 2,200 to 2,400 rpm.
UTB tractors of the Universal range were widely used, rugged and easy-to-maintain workhorses for small and medium farms across Eastern Europe, Africa and parts of Asia, competing directly there with Soviet makes such as MTZ Belarus as well as with basic Western models.
When buying used, condition of the injection pump and cooling, the clutch and gearbox, and rust on sheet-metal parts and mudguards all matter; since production in Brașov declined sharply after 1989, spare parts for the Universal 300 range are today mainly available through the used-parts market and Eastern European specialists.
