The water-cooled diesel engine produces 40 hp, or 30 kW. The tractor is fitted with mechanical four-wheel drive (MFWD), which spreads drive through a steered front axle in addition to the rear axle.
40 hp with four-wheel drive sits in the range of small to medium farms, where the extra traction from the front axle pays off especially on loose, sloping or wet ground, common in the hilly and mountainous parts of the former Yugoslavia. The 404 Super marks the end of this line in the year production stopped.
When buying such an old four-wheel-drive tractor, the condition of the front-axle joints, the tightness of the transfer gearbox and corrosion on load-bearing sheet-metal parts matter especially. As production in Štore has since ended, the availability of spare parts for the drivetrain and four-wheel-drive components should be checked specifically before purchase.
