Stewart & Stevenson of Houston, Texas, developed the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) for the US Army in the 1990s, from which the LMTV (Light Medium Tactical Vehicle) range emerged. This page gathers the versions outside the named ranges, including the base LMTV, the M1078 cargo truck and the variants M1081A1, M1088 (a tractor unit) and M1093, all built on the same all-wheel-drive chassis.

The register lists here 5 versions with six-cylinders of 6,600 to 7,200 cm³, unladen weights from 7,985 to 9,522 kg, gross weights from 11,990 to 20,252 kg, lengths from 6,500 to 8,250 mm and widths from 2,440 to 2,500 mm.

The FMTV family replaced older US-forces military-truck ranges from the 1990s and continues to be built in large numbers, under changing ownership since the takeover of Stewart & Stevenson's military business by Armor Holdings and later BAE Systems; vehicles retired from service regularly reach the civilian used market, both within the United States and abroad through surplus programmes.

On these tactical trucks, operating hours, the condition of four-wheel drive and transfer case, corrosion of frame and load bed, and whether the vehicle comes from military or civilian disposal, which determines parts availability, count; parts run through specialist military-vehicle suppliers and partly through civilian FMTV refurbishers, whose stock varies by variant and generation.
