Steiger – other models: the collective page of the articulated tractors from Fargo, North Dakota, from the Cougar through the Wildcat to the Tiger series, 125 to 340 hp, Caterpillar and Cummins engines
Steiger was a maker of articulated four-wheel-drive tractors from Fargo in the US state of North Dakota, whose model names are consistently drawn from North American wild cats and predators – Cougar, Wildcat, Bearcat, Tiger and Puma denote different series and power classes. This page gathers the models the register could not assign to a named range, from the Cougar series (Cougar I, Cougar 1000 CR1280, Cougar III PT270 and PTA280) through the Bearcat 1000 and Bearcat IV KM225, Super Wildcat, Wildcat 1000 and Wildcat III ST210 to the Tiger III ST450, Turbo Tiger II ST320, Puma 1000, the type 9130 and the prototype EXP-35. In 1986 Case IH acquired the maker and continued the range under its own name in Fargo.

The register lists 14 versions here with 125 to 340 hp. The engine makers recorded are Caterpillar and Cummins, with Cummins units used mainly in earlier models; all models run on diesel.
Steiger's articulated tractors were among the first series-built large four-wheel-drive tractors for North American prairie farming and competed against concepts from John Deere and Case; the acquisition by Case IH secured the range's continuation as a standalone brand for heavy agricultural tractors.
When buying an older Steiger, the condition and operating hours of the Caterpillar or Cummins engines, the tightness of the articulation joint including its hydraulic cylinders, and wear on the four-wheel drive and axles all matter most; spare parts for later models built under Case IH are available through the Case IH dealer network, while for early model years specialist Steiger parts dealers in North America are the better source.
