The Musso was SsangYong's first internationally noted export success and positioned the brand as an affordable alternative to established off-roader makers; the close technical kinship with Mercedes-Benz units gave the model a reputation in Europe for solid, if simple, engineering, while the panel-van version occupied a niche in commercial distribution alongside classic vans.

On a used example, rust on the frame, wings and door bottoms, the condition of the axles and transfer case on four-wheel-drive versions, the Mercedes diesel (timing chain, injection pump) and the electrics and interior, regarded as weak points, count; parts are available through SsangYong importers and independent dealers, though with some effort.
