Curtainsider semi-trailers are the standard type of European general-cargo haulage because they can be loaded from the side and so work at ramps without a rear opening; SDC thereby supplies mainly the British and Irish market and hauliers using the ferry routes across the Irish Sea.

As class O4 semi-trailers, SDC curtainsiders need an air brake system and driving licence category CE for towing. The tandem- and triaxle versions differ in axle-load distribution: the three-axle version spreads the load more evenly and allows a higher gross weight, while the tandem-axle version offers slightly more payload at a lower unladen weight.

On a used example, the condition of the tarpaulin and sliding-curtain rails, stanchions and roof bows, axles and braking system under high payload, rust on the frame, and the condition of the kingpin and fifth-wheel plate count; spare parts run through the SDC service network and the general market for semi-trailer accessories.
