Scammell – further models: the collective page of the British heavy-truck manufacturer from Watford beyond the named series, from the Scarab tractor unit to the R530, 3,330 to 16,353 cc displacement
Scammell was a British manufacturer of heavy trucks and articulated tractor units based in Watford, part of the Leyland group until 1988, when the brand was discontinued. This collective page gathers the models the register could not assign to a named series: the R530 and the SCARAB 6TON/2900. The Scammell Scarab was a compact three-wheeled shunting tractor for depot and distribution work, in which the 6TON suffix denotes a six-tonne trailer capacity.

The register lists 2 versions here with displacements of 3,330 to 16,353 cc, an eight-cylinder engine, kerb weights of 1,970 to 9,900 kg, a permissible gross weight of 28,000 kg, lengths of 4,400 to 6,820 mm, and widths of 2,040 to 2,550 mm.
In British commercial-vehicle manufacturing, Scammell occupied the segment of heavy articulated tractors and special transporters, while the compact Scarab was used as a shunting tractor at railway yards, docks and haulage firms for inner-city distribution work; the wide span from the small three-wheeled tractor to the heavy articulated unit shows the breadth of the manufacturer's range.
When buying a used example of these historic British commercial vehicles, check for corrosion on the frame, cab and load bed, the condition of the engine and gearbox, the function of the brake system, and, on the Scarab, the condition of the trailer coupling mechanism; spare parts are today only available through specialist vintage-vehicle dealers and clubs for British commercial vehicles.
