SAME Tiger

The six-cylinder engine runs on air-and-oil cooling, displaces 5,428 cm³ and delivers 73.5 kW at 2,200 rpm, equivalent to 100 horsepower, with 388 Nm of torque. With a weight of 4,050 kg, a wheelbase of 2,660 mm and a top speed of 25 km/h, the Tiger Six 105 was built for heavy drawbar work.

A six-cylinder engine with air-and-oil cooling is unusual, since this cooling method was mostly used on smaller engines with fewer cylinders; SAME carried the concept over to larger six-cylinder units as well, to bring the benefits of frost immunity and simpler construction to the heavy power class too. Torque of 388 Nm supplies the pulling power needed for ploughing and cultivator work over large areas.

When buying a used Tiger Six 105, the air-and-oil cooling should be checked with particular care given the size of the six-cylinder engine, since a cooling failure has more serious consequences on this engine than on smaller air-and-oil-cooled units. The clutch and gearbox should also be tested under load, since the high torque places heavy strain on the drivetrain components. A close look at the exhaust manifold gaskets is worthwhile too, since the heat generated by such a large six-cylinder engine puts extra strain on them over time.
