The water-cooled diesel engine delivers 13 kW, equivalent to 18 horsepower, and drives the wheels through rear-wheel drive. This power class corresponds to a very small farm tractor, the kind used for cultivation close to the farmstead, for transport tasks or for operating small implements.

Small tractors of this power class are built for holdings that do not need great pulling power but value manoeuvrability and low fuel consumption for simple fieldwork. Rear-wheel drive without additional front-axle assistance is common on such light machines, as long as the work is carried out mainly on flat, easily accessible ground.

When buying a used T-18, the cooling system should be checked for leaks, since small water-cooled engines overheat quickly if maintenance is neglected. The availability of spare parts should also be established in advance, since vehicles imported from this country of origin are often only supplied to a limited extent outside their original market. A stationary test run also gives a good indication of whether the engine still starts evenly and runs smoothly after a longer period of standing idle.
