The N range from the maker Ritscher of Moisburg in Lower Saxony comprised three-wheeled tractors, a layout common in the 1950s that, with only a single steered front wheel, offered a tighter turning circle than four-wheeled tractors; the models covered here, N, N 14 and N 20, show the appended number for the respective power step. Single- and twin-cylinder engines drove the rear wheels depending on the version.

Three-wheeled tractors such as the Ritscher N range served mainly small farms and special crops such as orchards and vineyards in the post-war period, where the tight turning circle between rows offered an advantage over conventional tractors; the layout lost significance in the following decades as nimble four-wheeled compact tractors spread.
On a used Ritscher N, the condition of the front-wheel steering and its bearings, rust on the frame and sheet-metal panels, the tightness of the engine, and the availability of spare parts, which for this rare design can today mainly be sourced through specialist collectors and vintage-vehicle dealers, all count.
