The air-cooled two-cylinder engine displaces 1,700 cm³ and drives the wheels through a gearbox with eight forward and four reverse gears. With a 20-litre fuel tank and a top speed of 20 km/h, the D 25 P was built for sustained fieldwork rather than fast road travel.
A gearbox with eight forward and four reverse gears offers considerably more steps than the four- or six-speed setups typical of small tractors, allowing finer matching of travel speed to different implements. The air-cooled design of the two-cylinder engine needed no radiator or water pump, making it low-maintenance.
When buying a used D 25 P, the gearshift with its eight forward gears should be checked for clean engagement in every step, since wear on the shift dogs occurs more often in such finely stepped gearboxes than in simpler ones. The cooling airflow of the two-cylinder engine also deserves a check for fouling, since overheated air-cooled engines quickly lose power.
