At a build height of only 1,330 mm, with a weight of 1,730 kg and a wheelbase of 2,006 mm, the 42-70 F was designed to pass under low-hanging branches, with a top speed of 25 km/h.
Orchard tractors with a build height well under 1.5 metres allow work in low-stem and espalier orchards without the driver's cab or exhaust colliding with branches, which requires a low-mounted, usually flat-laid engine. The air-cooled design further reduces build height, since the radiator and its grille are omitted.
When buying a used 42-70 F, attention should be paid to damage to the roof and front panelling caused by contact with branches, which is common on intensively used orchard tractors. The four-cylinder's cooling airflow and the exhaust system also deserve inspection, since both are especially tightly packed with other components given the low build height. The driver's overhead guard should be checked for dents too, as it takes the brunt of any contact with low branches.
