The Renault Master has been the basis for numerous special bodies in France and beyond since the 1980s, from ambulances to disabled-transport vehicles to tradespeople's vans, because the chassis is available in various wheelbases and body heights.
Unlike the front-wheel-drive vans from the Sevel partnership, such as the Peugeot Boxer or Citroën Jumper, the Master is rear-wheel drive, which allows higher axle loads for the special bodies fitted here, but brings a propshaft tunnel in the load floor.
On a used special-bodied example, the condition of the Master chassis with its known wear points at the turbocharger and dual-clutch gearbox, the workmanship of the body transitions, rust at the mounting points, and, for former emergency vehicles, complete documentation of the special-equipment removal all count.
