Renault Agriculture of Le Mans named several of its tractor ranges after Roman deities; Ceres, the goddess of agriculture, gave the Ceres range its name. The CERES-300-X version comprises the Ceres 345 X (A) and Ceres 355 X A models, the A suffix marking an equipment variant. The X suffix in the model designation marked, for Renault, a particular equipment and technology level within the respective range.

The Ceres-300-X range sat in the upper mid-range of the Renault line-up, aimed at medium to larger arable farms in France and the rest of Western Europe. It thus occupied a market segment between the more compact and the very largest Renault ranges of the time.
Buyers of used units should check the injection system, clutch and gearbox, as well as the hydraulics, cab seals and rust on the frame; spares run through the Claas dealer network, which took over support for the older Renault ranges.
