The water-cooled Simpson diesel engine delivers 37 kW, equivalent to about 49 horsepower, driving the rear axle only. This power class corresponds to a medium to fairly powerful farm tractor, the kind needed for ploughing and drawbar work on larger fields, without yet reaching the category of heavy standard tractors.
Engines from Simpson are used in India in various commercial vehicles and stationary drives and are regarded as rugged designs suited to local fuel quality. Rear-wheel drive alone, without all-wheel drive, is common on farm tractors of this power class when work is carried out mainly on flat, easily accessible farmland.
When buying a used ACE FEL 75, the tightness of the Simpson engine's cooling system and the local availability of spare parts should be checked, since imported vehicles with this drivetrain are often only supplied to a limited extent outside their original sales market. The condition of the rear axle drive components also deserves attention, since with purely rear-wheel drive they must transmit the entire pulling force, which accelerates their wear under intensive field use.
