As is typical for attachments of this kind, the right size depends on the carrier machine: a front-loader bucket for a tractor needs a different design than the same bucket width on a wheel loader. Capacity, weight and mounting dimensions are adapted to the carrier machine accordingly.

Buckets for front loaders and front-mounted linkages are used in agriculture and municipal service mainly for earthwork, material handling and clearing, while the same basic shape on a wheel loader or telehandler serves earthmoving and material transport on building sites. Mounting is usually via a quick coupler, which allows switching between bucket, forks and other attachments without tools, including tidy-up work on recreational grounds.

When buying such a bucket used, check the condition of the cutting edge and teeth, which bear the direct wear from earthwork, as well as the condition of the mounting bracket and its pins, which are particularly stressed by frequent attachment changes. Compatibility of the quick coupler with your own carrier machine should also be checked before buying.
