The P-14 was built in 1949 and 1950 as a small farm tractor of the P series and, like many models from these early post-war years, belongs to the group of simple single-cylinder diesels aimed at smaller agricultural holdings.

The water-cooled single-cylinder engine displaces 1,178 cm³ and delivers 10.3 kW at 1,500 rpm, equivalent to 14 horsepower. With a weight of 1,250 kg, a wheelbase of 1,450 mm and a width of 1,650 mm that clearly exceeds the wheelbase, plus a top speed of 15 km/h, the P-14 was built for stable fieldwork rather than road travel.
Single-cylinder diesel engines of around one litre displacement and rated outputs of 10 to 15 horsepower characterised the lowest power class of small farm tractors in the 1940s and early 1950s; they were simple, rugged and aimed at holdings that had previously worked with draught animals. A track width large relative to the wheelbase improved stability when working on slopes.
When buying a used Primus P-14, the coolant lines and radiator should be checked for corrosion, since rust inside the narrow water jacket is common on water-cooled single-cylinder engines of this age. The clutch and simple gearbox also deserve a test drive, as new spare parts for this rare maker are hard to source today. A careful pressure test of the water jacket before purchase can save considerable trouble later.
