Oto Tractors from Italy – Compact Tractors of the 1950s

Oto C 45 RC
Pictured: Oto C 45 RC

During the Second World War, engineer Camillo Corradi, working at the OTO Melara steelworks in La Spezia, conceived the idea of building farm tractors once the war ended. OTO stands for Odero, Terni and Orlando, Italy's three largest steelworks of the time. Between 1950 and 1961, OTO produced tractors this way, recognisable by their orange-red livery. They were available as a three-wheeler with one front wheel, with twin front wheels, or with four ordinary wheels, some also as tracked versions. The C45 RC, for instance, was a convertible variant of the tracked C45 that could be turned into a conventional wheeled tractor in under two hours. Listed in the register: C 45 RC, C 25 R 4, C 40 R 4, C 25 2 R 3, C 25 R 3.
