O&K T18

The T18A is powered by a single-cylinder diesel engine of 1.66 litres, delivering 13.2 kW at 1,500 rpm, roughly 18 hp. At an unladen weight of 1,400 kg, a height of 1,530 mm, a length of 2,550 mm, a width of 1,570 mm and a wheelbase of 1,600 mm, the machine has a design top speed of 19.8 km/h.

Single-cylinder diesel tractors of this power class were used on smaller and medium holdings in the 1950s for tillage, transport and light power-take-off work. A large displacement of 1.66 litres in a single cylinder gave high torque at low speed, typical of the rugged slow-running engines of the period; the build quality O&K was known for in excavators carried over to these small tractors, even though they were only a minor part of the company's line-up.

When buying a single-cylinder tractor like this, check the injection pump, the tightness of the cooling system and wear on clutch and gearbox. The drive belt and cooling fins are also worth checking on an engine this old; rust on load-bearing panels is common after decades of use. The condition of the fuel tank and its mounts is also worth checking, since corrosion there is common on tractors of this age.
