The TDD80 is powered by a four-cylinder diesel engine of 3.9 litres, delivering 58.5 kW at 2,500 rpm, roughly 80 hp, and can run on either diesel or biodiesel. At a length of 3,976 mm, a height of 2,573 mm and an unladen weight of 3,600 kg, the machine has a design top speed of 40 km/h.

Biodiesel operation requires a fuel system approved for it and is a common option on modern general-purpose tractors of this class for holdings that produce their own plant oil and want to diversify their fuel supply. A design top speed of 40 km/h places the tractor, under German rules, in driving licence category T, with power-take-off work at the standard speeds of 540 or 1,000 rpm.

When buying a used biodiesel-capable tractor, the condition of fuel lines and seals is one of the most important checks, since biodiesel attacks rubber and plastic parts more than plain diesel does. It is also worth checking the brakes, any play in the steering knuckle bearings, and paint damage around the fuel tank, which can point to past leaks. Checking the tank cap and breather for correct sealing is also worthwhile, since a poor seal accelerates fuel degradation.
