Tipping trailers in this size class are a standard tool in landscaping and garden work, for smaller building firms, in farming and for municipal services, wherever loose bulk material such as soil, sand, gravel or cuttings needs moving without manual unloading. The tipping mechanism saves considerable time and effort compared with unloading by hand with a shovel or wheelbarrow. The range up to 7.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight covers both trailers towed by cars and larger versions for light commercial vehicles.

When buying used, the tipping mechanism comes first: check the hydraulic ram for leaks, the valves and hoses for age cracking, and the tipping body itself for corrosion through and wear at the tipping pivot. Also check the side panels and their latches, the axles, brakes and lighting, and the coupling, as with any trailer.
