On used examples with bought-in engines, the service history and condition of the Kubota or John Deere unit matter most, since a wide service network exists for these units; gearbox, hydraulics and implement couplings should be checked for wear and tightness as with any compact tractor. As the engines come from established suppliers, the first port of call for spare parts on repairs is usually the engine maker itself rather than the small tractor brand.
