Mercedes-Benz WDB 440.173: the trac 900 turbo was a turbocharged four-cylinder farm tractor built from 1987 to 1991 with a 3,972 cm³ engine, 90 hp (66 kW) and a top speed of 30 km/h
The MB-trac was Mercedes-Benz's own farm tractor line, with the cab mounted centrally between the axles for even axle loading with front- and rear-mounted implements. The WDB 440.173, the trac 900 turbo, belongs to the later, more powerful generation of this line from 1987 to 1991.

The turbocharged four-cylinder engine displaces 3,972 cm³ and produces 90 hp, or 66 kW, at 2,400 rpm, delivering 313 Nm of torque, and is water-cooled. With a top speed of 30 km/h, the trac 900 turbo remains clearly built for field work. On a 2,400 mm wheelbase it weighs 4,080 kg, measuring 4,150 mm in length and 2,140 mm in width.
Compared with the earlier MB-trac generation, turbocharging draws noticeably more power from a similar displacement, making the trac 900 turbo suited to heavier attachments and draught work without departing from the symmetrical layout with its central cab. Here too the power take-off runs at the standardised speeds of 540 or 1,000 rpm, and the three-point hydraulics follow the category system set out in ISO 730.
When buying a used example, besides the cab mounts, portal axles and hydraulic tightness, also check the condition of the turbocharger and intercooler hoses, as these parts tend to wear first on older turbodiesels. Spare parts are available through the MB-trac enthusiast scene.
