The Mercedes-Benz ML320 belongs to the first and second generations of the M-Class, which Mercedes-Benz has built since 1997 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama – the brand's first plant outside Europe. The 320 designation originally referred to the first generation's 3.2-litre V6 petrol engine and, from 2005 with the second generation, was transferred to the 3.0-litre CDI common-rail diesel that the register mostly covers here; 4MATIC marks the standard four-wheel drive. The examples carried in the register were registered in individual countries as light N1 commercial vehicles, although technically they are unmodified passenger cars.
