Mercedes Benz GLS
5 models in this series
Mercedes-Benz GLS – the flagship SUV with six- and eight-cylinder engines: diesel and petrol from 2.9 to 4.0 litres, 190 to 243 kW, up to the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 range-topper, 5,220 to 5,240 mm length
The GLS is Mercedes-Benz's largest SUV and replaced the previous GL in 2015; the range is built at the US plant in Tuscaloosa. Model designations combine the range with a three-digit power figure and the 4MATIC suffix for standard four-wheel drive; d denotes a diesel engine. The GLS 600 4MATIC, meanwhile, is a model of the separate luxury marque Mercedes-Maybach, offering extra equipment and a longer wheelbase.

The register lists here 5 versions with 190 to 243 kW from six- and eight-cylinder engines of 2,925 to 3,982cc displacement, unladen weights from 2,315 to 2,710 kg, gross vehicle weights from 3,250 to 3,420 kg, lengths from 5,220 to 5,240 mm and widths from 1,940 to 2,030 mm.
As the flagship SUV, the GLS competes with the BMW X7 and the Range Rover and positions itself, with up to seven seats and air suspension, as a touring and representational vehicle for large families and commercial high-mileage users. The Maybach version lifts the model further into its own luxury segment above the regular GLS trim lines.
When buying a used vehicle of this size and trim depth, check the condition of the air suspension and chassis sensors, the tightness of the eight-speed automatic, the function of the driver-assistance systems, and, on diesel variants, the condition of the exhaust after-treatment system. Parts and servicing run through the regular Mercedes-Benz dealer network, supplemented by specialist service partners for the Maybach version.
