The Mercedes-Benz GLE is the name that replaced the M-Class in 2015 and has been built since 2019 in its second GLE generation (W167 series). The numerical badge (250, 300, 350, 400, 450, 500, 580) no longer directly denotes displacement but marks the power step within the turbocharged engine range; the letter d stands for diesel, 4MATIC for permanent all-wheel drive, and e or de denote plug-in hybrids with petrol or diesel engines combined with an electric drive.

In the premium SUV segment, the GLE competes with the BMW X5, Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90, and is often chosen by families with a caravan or horse trailer, as well as for company car fleets, because of its high towing capacity; the plug-in hybrid variants mainly serve to meet fleet consumption targets.
On a used example, check the air suspension (Airmatic) for leaks, the maintenance of the 4MATIC drivetrain, on the e and de models the condition of the high-voltage battery and charging electronics, on some eight-cylinder petrol engines the timing chain, and, given the vehicle's weight, wear on the brakes and suspension components; checking the electronics fault history is advisable.
