This page gathers versions of the first Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with the internal chassis code 903.6 that the register could not assign to a narrower individual range. The Sprinter replaced the T1/TN in 1995, was built in Düsseldorf and in Ludwigsfelde in Brandenburg, and was also sold as the sister model to the VW LT and in North America as the Dodge and Freightliner Sprinter. The type logic follows Mercedes' commercial-vehicle scheme: the first digit gives the weight class – 3 for a 3.5 t gross weight – the following two digits the engine power in hp divided by ten, so that the 313 CDI stands for 130 hp and the 316 CDI for 160 hp; KA marks the panel van, the CDI suffix the common-rail direct diesel injection.

The 903.6 Sprinter was the first in its class with direct common-rail diesel injection and, as a panel van, combi and the base for motorhomes and emergency vehicles, shaped the European van market until its successor replaced it in 2006.
On this early CDI Sprinter, the condition of the injection pump and turbocharger, rust on sills, wheel arches and load floor, automatic or manual transmission, and on high-mileage examples the mileage count; parts are widely available through the dense Mercedes-Benz Vans network.
