The 312D belongs to the first generation of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (chassis code W903), built from 1995 at the Düsseldorf plant, replacing the previous T1 model. The type designation 312 denotes the 3.5-tonne gross weight class with the five-cylinder OM602 diesel engine and 2.9 litres of displacement; the 312D-II designation marks the revised version. Kampeerauto and Kampeerwagen are Dutch terms for motorhome conversions on this chassis.
