This page gathers Mercedes-Benz vehicles of the classic L range, whose three-digit type designations such as L 911, L 1113 and L 710 shaped the maker's medium-duty truck building for decades. These chassis were among the most widespread bases for municipal and fire-service bodies in Germany and much of Europe; the designation LF16/4200 in the register refers to a pumping appliance of the kind typically built on such chassis. The letter B in designations such as 1113B marks a version with a reduction gearbox for off-road use.

For decades the L chassis formed the backbone of Germany's fire services and municipal fleets, as Mercedes-Benz offered an especially dense service network and long spare-parts availability for them; many of the pumping appliances built on them consequently stayed in service for decades.

When buying a used chassis of this type, what matters is the condition of the engine and injection pump, the clutch and gearbox, and the frame and brake system; on vehicles with a fire-service body, also the condition of the pump, tank and body electrics. Rust on the frame, running boards and cab floor is common on these older model years; parts for chassis and engine are available through Mercedes-Benz specialists.
