Mercedes-Benz Unimog U 2450 L 6x6 (series 437.156): six-cylinder engine rated at 177 kW with three driven axles, 840 Nm of torque, top speed over 80 km/h.
The Unimog U 2450 L 6x6 of the 437.156 series is a three-axle version driving all six wheels, built by Mercedes-Benz at its Gaggenau plant. The extra third axle, compared with two-axle U 2450 variants, increases load capacity and traction for particularly demanding conditions.

The water-cooled six-cylinder engine displaces 5,958 cm³, with a 97.5 mm bore and 133 mm stroke, and produces 241 hp (177 kW) at 2,600 rpm with 840 Nm of torque. With a wheelbase of 3,900 mm, the U 2450 L 6x6 reaches a top speed of over 80 km/h. A total of 214 units of model 437.156 were built.
At over 80 km/h the U 2450 L 6x6 likewise exceeds the 60 km/h limit of the T tractor licence class and is registered as a lorry. Three driven axles on portal axles spread the high 840 Nm of torque across six wheels and secure traction in soft or difficult terrain, where two-axle vehicles reach their limits.
When buying a used example, check the condition of all three portal axles, each with its own oil in the hub reduction gears, requiring regular checks. The additional propshafts to the third axle should be checked for play and for leaks at the differentials. The frame around the axle mountings deserves particular attention given the high loads involved. Spare parts are available through Mercedes-Benz's Unimog programme.
