Mercedes-Benz built the MB trac 1500 as one of the most powerful models of the first MB-trac generation at its Gaggenau plant. Like the rest of the line, it followed the system-tractor concept with equal-sized wheels front and rear and a rotating driver's seat for working front- and rear-mounted implements. It was produced between July 1980 and February 1987.

The six-cylinder engine displaces 5,675 cm³ and produces 150 hp (110 kW) with 499 Nm of torque. Rated speed was initially 2,500 rpm, reduced to 2,400 rpm from March 1982. At an unladen weight of 5,640 kg and a gross weight of 10,000 kg, there is ample payload for implements and trailers; length and width are 4,680 mm and 2,500 mm, with a height of 3,050 mm and a wheelbase of 2,650 mm.

At a gross weight of 10,000 kg, the MB trac 1500 counts among the heavier versions of the line and was built for haulage tasks beyond straightforward fieldwork. As on the Unimog, portal axles and standard four-wheel drive provide high ground clearance. In Germany the tractor is registered under the T tractor licence class.

When buying a used example, check the condition of the tubular frame and implement mounting points, where rust appears first. Since the rated engine speed changed during the production run, it is worth checking the actual state of the injection pump. The seat-rotation mechanism and hydraulic fittings should be checked for smooth operation and leaks. Axle and gearbox parts are available through Unimog spares suppliers.
