They are the standard tool of hauliers specialising in construction-machinery transport and of hire firms delivering their own machines to customers.
When buying used, check the frame for cracks and distortion from the heavy loads carried, the axle assemblies and brake system including ABS or EBS, the loading ramps and their hydraulics where fitted, the drawbar eye or kingpin, and current inspection dates. Because of the high axle loads, tyres and brakes on low-loaders wear faster than on lighter trailers.
