Vehicles of this weight class on multi-axle MAN chassis are used in heavy and special-load transport and in crane and equipped-body applications, where a high gross weight is needed with a comparatively compact axle count.

On these multi-axle vehicles, the condition of the engine and gearbox, the axles and differential locks, the steering of the trailing-steered axles, the braking system and frame, and, depending on the body fitted, the condition and inspection history of the body equipment all count; servicing and parts run through the MAN workshop network.

With gross vehicle weights from 36,000 to 45,000 kg, these multi-axle vehicles sit at the upper end of EU class N3 (over 12 t), partly above the gross-weight limit of 40 to 44 tonnes typical in the EU for regular traffic; at such weights, the need for special or exemption permits for heavy-load transport is correspondingly high. A category CE driving licence, a tachograph and driving and rest times are mandatory here, as is the toll on toll roads.
