The Massey Harris Ferguson name marks the brief transitional period when, after the merger of Massey-Harris and the Ferguson organisation, both names appeared jointly on tractors before the Massey Ferguson brand took over. The FE 35 Spezial dates from this phase and carried forward the basic design of small all-purpose tractors with hydraulic three-point linkage.

The FE 35 Spezial has a diesel engine with 2,258 cm³ displacement, producing 33 hp, or 24.3 kW; its rated speed is given as 1,780 or 1,720 rpm for two operating points. At 1,455 kg, with a length of 2,792 mm and a width of 1,620 mm, it is a light all-purpose tractor with a design top speed of 20 km/h.

With a top speed of 20 km/h, the FE 35 Spezial falls under Germany's driving licence category T. The standard three-point linkage, already carried by earlier models in this line, follows in principle the later ISO 730 standard and allowed light tillage tools to be mounted directly without an extra frame.

When buying a used FE 35 Spezial, the diesel engine's seals, the condition of the injection pump and the hydraulic connections of the three-point linkage deserve particular attention, since parts of this age are often reproductions. Frame cracks, brakes and front axle bearings are also worth checking on such an old, light tractor.
