The MF 175 / MF177 (DE) has a water-cooled four-cylinder diesel engine with 3,867 cm³ displacement, producing 67 hp at a rated speed of 2,000 rpm, and drives its wheels solely through the rear axle. With a driveline offered as a 6+2 or optionally 12+4-speed Multi-Power gearbox and a weight of 2,660 kg, it was built for field work with frequent gear changes.
The Multi-Power gearbox allowed shifting under load at the push of a button, an advanced feature for its time that eased field work compared with purely mechanically shifted gearboxes. As a rear-wheel-drive-only tractor with no engageable front axle, it belongs to the classic standard-tractor design from before four-wheel drive became widely available.
When buying a used rear-wheel-drive tractor of this age, the function of the Multi-Power gearbox is a key checkpoint, since worn hydraulics delay gear changes or prevent them altogether.
