Mantovanibenne, also known under the MBI brand, is an Italian manufacturer of excavator attachments whose range, alongside grapples and screening buckets, also includes demolition tools such as the MS Multi-System. The principle of a multi-processor is that one base body with a rotating joint stays mounted on the excavator, and depending on the task it is fitted with crusher jaws, cutting jaws or grapple jaws instead of swapping the whole attachment for each function. The excavator supplies the closing force through its hydraulic closing circuit, while the tool itself has no drive of its own.
A tool of this kind is used in building demolition and in recycling construction and demolition material: concrete elements are crushed and the reinforcement inside separated, and steel beams can be cut with the appropriate jaws. Swapping jaws lets a single carrier machine handle several demolition tasks without keeping a separate attachment for each one.
When buying a used multi-processor, what matters is the condition of the cutting edges or teeth on the fitted jaw, play in the rotating joint between the base body and the jaw, and the tightness of the hydraulic cylinders in the closing circuit. Since jaws are traded as wear parts separately from the base body, it should be clarified before purchase which jaws are included and whether they fit the base body on offer.
