MAN built agricultural diesel tractors in Nuremberg during the 1950s, applying the same diesel-injection fundamentals used in MAN's truck and engine business; tractor production ended in 1962. The F series with the 2F1 and 2F1S models formed the light, two-cylinder class of the range, while the larger, four-cylinder types carried a different designation. Both models share the two-cylinder engine with 885 cm³ displacement.

MAN's agricultural diesels played only a minor role in the West German tractor market of the 1950s alongside established farm-machinery makers; with the end of its own tractor production in 1962, MAN withdrew entirely from the agricultural machinery business and focused on trucks and engines. The F series is accordingly among the rarer German post-war tractors.
When buying used, the small MAN diesels warrant checking the injection pump and nozzles above all, since spare parts from such a short production run are barely available new. Clutch, steering gear and the condition of the narrow tyres deserve attention; parts are sourced by specialist vintage workshops, usually through remanufacture or salvage from similar surviving examples.
