MAN TGE with special body, built 2023/2024: the class N1 chassis with a 1,968 cm³ four-cylinder diesel engine, 3,500 kg gross weight, a length of 7,400 mm and a top speed of 165 km/h
Alongside MAN as the chassis maker, the register entry gives a second name that points to a body-building firm: such light vans are often delivered as a chassis with cab and only afterwards fitted with their own body, for example as a box van, refrigerated vehicle or special conversion for emergency and special services. The technology of the underlying MAN TGE chassis, however, can be described precisely.

The chassis carries a four-cylinder diesel engine of 1,968 cm³, at a gross weight of 3,500 kg. With a kerb weight of 2,695 kg, a payload of about 805 kg remains for the body and cargo together. The length of 7,400 mm at a wheelbase of 4,490 mm shows a long wheelbase with a comparatively short overhang, which allows an even axle-load distribution for special bodies; the top speed of 165 km/h is at the upper end of what is usual for this vehicle class.
Chassis of this kind are sold specifically for further bodybuilding, because they give the body-building firm a frame without a finished box body onto which container bodies of different heights and lengths can be mounted. As a class N1 vehicle, the gross weight of 3,500 kg also applies as a fixed upper limit for the finished body, regardless of the body fitted.
When buying a vehicle with a special body second-hand, alongside the usual condition of engine, brakes and suspension, what counts above all is the professional attachment of the body to the chassis frame, the tightness and condition of the body panelling, and whether parts for the body itself are still available from the relevant body-building firm.
