With gross weights from 36 to 42 tonnes, the tank semi-trailers fall within vehicle class O4 and are used in Finnish freight transport for hauling liquids and bulk material on roads with a high permitted combination weight, as is common in Finland for long vehicle combinations. In Finnish freight transport, such multi-axle tank semi-trailers allow operators to make use of the higher permitted combination weights typical of the country's road network compared with most other European countries.

On a used tank semi-trailer, the condition of the tank shell and interior lining counts, along with the tightness of manhole covers and drain valves, the function of the multi-axle air suspension and the air braking system, and rust on the frame and axle mounts; for tanks carrying liquid cargo, proof of the last interior cleaning and pressure test should also be checked.
