Kijanski: small EU class O2 trailer with a gross weight of 3,500 kg, four wheels, a 676 mm axle spacing and a payload of about 2,600 kg
With a gross weight of 3,500 kg, the KIJANSKI sits right at the upper limit of EU trailer class O2, the light trailers between 750 and 3,500 kg. Vehicles in this class are towed by cars and light commercial vehicles and are mostly fitted with a simple overrun brake rather than an air brake.

With an unladen weight of 900 kg, the trailer carries a payload of around 2,600 kg, almost three times its own weight. It runs on four wheels and is 2.50 m wide. The 676 mm distance between the two axles is well below the usual wheelbase for a trailer like this, and instead describes the axle spacing within the tandem-axle group rather than the distance between drawbar and axle.
Class O2 trailers do not need a towing vehicle with an air supply; the overrun brake is applied mechanically through the drawbar when the towing vehicle brakes. With a permissible trailer weight of up to 3,500 kg, a trailer like this can be towed, depending on the towing vehicle, with licence category B or BE alone. The electrical connection to the towing vehicle on trailers of this class is usually made through a 13-pin connector to ISO 11446, which can also supply an additional reversing light and onboard electronics.
When buying a small tandem-axle trailer, it is worth checking the overrun mechanism and brake linkage for free movement, and the wheel bearings for play. Also worth checking are the frame for rust, the tyres for even wear across both axles, and whether the chassis number matches the registration papers. The connector and cable routing to the towing vehicle should also be checked for corrosion and a secure fit.
