With uniform power across the whole listed range, the Fieldmaster line sits in the segment of medium field tractors, as used for tillage, mowing and haulage on average-sized farms; the consistent use of the robust and widely fitted Perkins 4.236 eases upkeep compared with brands that switch engine suppliers.

When buying used, on the Perkins 4.236 operating hours and the condition of the injection pump and head gasket matter most, as the engine was also fitted in numerous other tractor and construction-machinery brands, making parts comparatively easy to source; also check the transmission, clutch, hydraulics and PTO for wear, and inspect tyres, brakes and the chassis for rust.

With outputs from 55 kW, the Fieldmaster range falls within three-point category II under ISO 730; the PTO on tractors of this class usually ran two-speed at 540 and 1,000 rpm. The Perkins 4.236 was also widely used outside agriculture, which further increases the supply of used spare parts.
