With a gross weight of 5,500 kg, the GLA K 55 falls into EU trailer class O3, which runs from 3,500 to 10,000 kg. At 2,180 mm wide, it is a comparatively narrow trailer, the kind often built for specialised, shape-fixed cargo rather than wide palletised goods.

Striking is the ratio of the 4,800 kg tare weight to the 5,500 kg gross weight: only 700 kg of payload remains, less than a sixth of the gross weight. Such a heavy body combined with so little payload points to a permanently built-in, sturdy purpose, such as an enclosed or reinforced box structure. At 7,150 mm long and with a 3,190 mm wheelbase, the loading area stays correspondingly compact.

From class O3 upward, a compressed-air braking system is mandatory, fitted as standard here. A category BE licence is sufficient for the combination in most EU states, provided the permitted combined weight stays within the limit that applies to that category there; otherwise a category CE licence is required.

Buying a used trailer built this heavy yet with so little payload, look closely at what causes the tare weight share: if the fixed structure is sound, sealed and free of rust, the low payload stays technically unproblematic. The axles, brakes and drawbar pivot should be checked for wear like on any trailer of this weight class.
